"Does the Prince's presence at Cop a stunt? Certainly. But that doesn't mean it's a bad idea," the expert remarked. "Cop has historically been as much about what's termed 'optics' as it is about talks. Prince William's commitment will probably encourage other officials to engage, and will capture global media."

"I suspect HRH knows very well that by participating, he'll bring countless of viewers to the event. In an period when climate impacts are increasing, but press attention is declining, any effort that raises awareness should be applauded."

Endorsement from Environmental Organizations

A leader from an environmental thinktank remarked: "All hands on deck – and any prominent figure like Prince William, there helping make the case for the challenging task that is required, is probably a positive development."

"[King Charles was in his previous role when he participated in the Glasgow summit and pitched in to motivate negotiations. I would argue it necessarily needs the prince and the king to go."

Prime Minister's Decision Remains Uncertain

The PM has yet to announce whether they will participate in the summit, to which every global leaders are invited, with scores planning to join. He was widely condemned by influential environmental voices for appearing to waver on the choice recently.

"International representatives must be in the summit location for Cop30. Attendance is not optional, it is a measure of commitment. This is the opportunity to lock in more ambitious government targets and the resources to implement them, especially for preparedness" to the effects of the environmental emergency.
"Global citizens is observing, and the future will note who was present."
